Del Ray is a neighborhood in Alexandria, VA bordered by E. Glebe Rd to the North, Route 1 to the East, Russell Rd to the West and W. Braddock Rd to the South. Del Ray is centered around its restaurant and shopping area around Mount Vernon Ave. It’s two major landmarks are Mount Vernon Community School and George Washington Middle School.
Mount Vernon Community School was founded nearly 100 years ago. It was renovated in 1968 and added its famous red caboose in 1973. George Washington Middle School is part of Alexandria City Public Schools. It was named after the first president of the United States and was originally opened as a high school. It consolidated Alexandria and George Mason High Schools.
